I was appointed to represent a woman on an Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle case this morning. She was stopped for speeding and immediately told the officer she was racing to find a bathroom. He not so politely told her tough $hit. She sped off and flew into a convenience store parking lot. As the cop began cuffing her (as seen on body camera) she hiked up her dress and defecated on the ground. She was then arrested and taken to jail.
Upon reviewing the case and body camera in court, the State quickly flushed the case and filed a dismissal.

So my trial was insane. Possession of 1-4 grams and felon in possession of a firearm. client was 25-life. Voir dire went great!!! I truly believe you win or lose your trial during voir dire. Jury did not like the fact that the cop was profiling my client. They held the DA to their burden to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt. My client’s buddy came down to testify for him, which was a fiasco. Buddy admitted car was his, drugs and gun were his. He had been admonished about taking the stand and told to plead the fifth. DAs freak out and asks to approach the bench. Judge calls his lawyer. After his lawyer rehabs his client, the witness blames me and recants. My client freaks out and bolts. WE HAVE A RUNNER! I kept my composure and did my closing without my client next to me. Nailed it and got that sweet two word verdict. Bad thing is the state is filing bond jumping. So we have another 25 to life battle. It was a roller coaster of a trial, but I was so happy that the jury was not swayed by his absence in their deliberations. First time for everything and honestly you can’t make this stuff up!!! Never had a runner before.
